Our Story

Back in September of 2010 Owen Kramme built his first interpretation of a Chimenea.

With nothing but a cheap welder from Sears, a pair of mismatched socks, and a can of PBR from the night before, Owen set out to weld up the idea that had been burning in his head all throughout Architecture school.

The first version of Form 6 emerged from his creative efforts to bring his idea to life. This version gave him a working prototype and helped him refine his design. He was ready for versions 2 & 3. Enter: Damian Velasquez.

Owen and Damian had formed a fast friendship while carting logs down a mountain (a story for another day) and Owen knew that together they could build the most kick-ass chimenea using Owen’s prototype and Damian’s design and fabrication skills.

The Form 6 of today is the culmination of their combined talents and is the beginning of the exploration of fire and steel.

History Lesson: A chimenea is a freestanding front-loading fireplace or oven with a bulbous body and usually a vertical smoke vent. Alternately, it can be spelled chiminea. These were historically made of fired clay and used for heating and cooking. Traditional designs can be traced to Spain and eventually Mexico. The first use of a traditionally designed chimenea appears around 400 years ago. (wikipedia)
